We’ve all seen individual therapy depicted countless times in tv shows and movies. A character usually comes in, plops down on a couch, and proceeds to unload all their thoughts and feelings to the therapist who nods along and repeatedly asks “how does that make you feel?”
Sometimes that’s how individual therapy goes, but not always.
That’s the amazing thing about individual therapy, you get to decide what you need in that moment to help you get through the next week. Don’t want to dive too deep because you don’t have the energy for it this week, thats ok. Are you ready to do some roleplaying to practice setting and holding boundaries with family members, awesome, let’s do it.
This is your time; let’s make it the best for you.
Here’s what you can expect from individual therapy:
One on one session with your provider
Individualized treatment plan crafted with your input
Make goals for both short term and long term
Explore behaviors that are detrimental and discover what to do instead
Develop a trusting relationship with your provider who values you for who you are
